Benchmark  1,  I will review the pictures and select a few that I think is best suited to work from. We will then have an in-depth consultation over email, Skye or phone. I sometimes prefer the email because its a discussion that evolves over a few days rather than an hour on the phone.  This should help us both  get a better understanding of what you are looking for  so we both have a clear vision for the painting.

First I will email you the contract along with information on how  to photograph dogs.  You can not underestimate the importance of the pictures. They do not have to be professional but I should have the ability to see detail as well as lot of variety, so the  more the better.  Once the contract is put aside I will schedule a time frame of the various benchmarks.

Benchmark 2, I create concept mock-up sketches of the portrait composition, illustrating layout, the idea, pose setting and pallet might be for your approval and send it to you via email. At this point I might reconsider the size of the canvas originally agreed upon and may be adjusted slightly for compositional purposes (this will not affect the price, since I do not reference the price based exclusively on canvas size). Its very important at this stage for both of us to be happy with the results. At times things fall together very quickly at others not so much

Benchmark 3,  Once this mock-up  image has  been decided on,  I begin the painting,  I stretch and prime my own canvases which takes at least a week.

If desired, I can email you pictures of my progress.   I usually prefer to wait until  around the mid-point to have a general review of the progress.
